🌱 From Farm to Bar: Why Cacao Prices Are Rising—And How We're Working to Keep Chocolate Accessible

At Primo Chocolate, we’ve always believed chocolate should nourish more than just your taste buds—it should support farmers, protect the earth, and bring people together. That’s why we want to share what’s been going on behind the scenes.

Lately, we’ve been hit with some serious cost increases, especially when it comes to cacao—the heart of our chocolate.

A Global Cacao Crisis: 4x Price Increase

The price of cacao has skyrocketed around the world. Just this year, the cacao we source from Ecuador jumped from $3,000 to $12,000 per metric ton.

This isn’t just a blip. It’s the result of a perfect storm: climate change affecting harvests, political instability in key growing regions, and global demand outpacing supply. Larger chocolate corporations are buying up more of the limited crop, driving prices higher and pushing out small-batch makers like us.

We’ve done everything we can to absorb these increases—but it’s a real challenge. We know times are tough for many of you, too, and raising our prices isn’t the first solution we want to turn to.

How We’re Holding the Line on Pricing

Rather than passing the full weight of these cost hikes onto our customers, we’re looking carefully at where we can cut costs without compromising quality. One of the biggest areas? Packaging.

We’re currently working on:

  • Simplifying our wrapping without losing that signature Primo feel

  • Using more eco-friendly, cost-effective materials

  • Reducing excess packaging to lower shipping weight and waste

This not only helps keep prices steady—it also aligns with our values around sustainability and mindful consumption.

Staying True to Our Mission

We’re still committed to ethically sourced, bean-to-bar chocolate made with integrity. That part doesn’t change. But we’re also learning how to adapt—smartly, sustainably, and transparently.

As we navigate this season, we’re incredibly grateful for your support. Every bar you buy helps us stay connected to the farmers we love, the mission we believe in, and the community we serve.

Thank you for being on this journey with us.

With love and chocolate,
Oliver
